There is more to be done to ensure that all students receive an excellent education. Together, city leaders must:
- Increase the number of students who graduate DC schools prepared to pursue further education or enter into meaningful careers;
- Ensure every child has qualified teachers and principals;
- Reduce the dropout rate by ensuring all our schools are delivering on their promise of a well rounded curriculum;
- Establish a system-wide culture of effective management and accountability;
- Implement the Common Core Standards and collaborate across states to develop tools for economies of scale;
- Redouble our commitment to career and technical education;
- Continue to grow our postsecondary options by supporting the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) and the Community College of DC (CCDC);
- Increase access to pre-kindergarten and early childhood education programs so students enter school ready to learn;
- Support the arts in K-12 education and make sure all students have access;
- Increase foreign language offerings in grades K-8 to lay a foundation for global awareness;
- Continue to engage parents and the community through public hearings and community forums.
