As a Board Member since 2007, Laura has worked with her colleagues to:
- Adopt the Common Core State Standards in English language arts and mathematics, joining over half the states in an unprecedented opportunity for collaboration;
- Establish graduation requirements that will prepare DC students for success in college and the workforce;
- Adopt learning standards in world languages, physical education, music and the visual and performing arts so that all students receive a balanced education;
- Pass measures that will help attract top-notch teachers and principals;
- Rethink our testing system so that it truly measures what matters most;
- Engage the public in establishing a vision for education in DC.
